A Southwest Exterminators service vehicle fell into a sinkhole while at an account in Washington City, Utah.
The pest management firm’s owner Eric Palmer tells St. George News a technician was speaking to a client inside her home when they heard the loud noise. While approaching the street, the tech noticed the vehicle was slumped into the pavement: A tire had fallen into what is now a 2-ft.-wide sinkhole.
“[The client] heard a crash and looked over [her] shoulder and noticed that the service truck was sitting in a hole in the ground,” Palmer tells the local news outlet, “so our truck was in the wrong place at the wrong time.”
Washington Utilities Superintendent Michael Winters says the sinkhole is about 4-5 ft. deep and is due to a break in an underground water line caused by erosion.
“There’s no way of really knowing there’s a leak,” Winters says, “until today, when the man’s truck parked on top of the area and the weight of the truck caused the asphalt to sink and then break open, causing the hole.”
The truck was damaged, but no injuries were reported.
