Termites are notorious for causing significant damage to wood structures, and the extent of the damage can be influenced by the foraging range of the colony.

Some species, like the Formosan subterranean termite (Coptotermes formosanus), can travel distances of 300 feet or more in search of food and moisture. Additionally, some species can establish satellite colonies far away from the main colony, which can allow them to expand their territory and increase their foraging range.

This presents a challenge when it comes to termite control, as it’s not enough to only treat the main colony or the infested structure. To truly eliminate the infestation, it’s important to treat all wood structures on the property. This could include tree stumps, fences, decks, porches, sheds or other outbuildings that could get missed during the initial inspection. This also can help prevent the termites from establishing a new satellite colony, which could continue to damage the property.

By taking a comprehensive approach to termite control, it can be possible to effectively eliminate the infestation and protect the property from future damage.
