Rodenticide is a hot topic in our industry — and it got there, in part, due to misuse. When using block or packet rodenticides, always follow the label. The label will address where to place the rodenticide.
When using a bait station for rodenticide, it’s key that:
- The rodenticide is held firmly in place by rods.
- The bait station is secured, typically by weighting with a pavement stone.
- It’s tamper-resistant, which typically means it locks with a key.
If the pavement stone is broken, the station is no longer considered secured. If the station cannot close or lock, it’s not considered tamper-resistant.
Be mindful of the condition of your stations. If any parts are broken, do not add rodenticide, as that is typically a violation of the label. Luckily, there are often other alternatives, depending on the environment and the station. You may be able to place snap traps or monitoring blocks in a station, for example, until it can be replaced or fixed.
