In honor of the centennial of the Migratory Bird Treaty Act, National Geographic dubbed 2018 the “Year of the Bird.” Bird management company Bird-X Inc. is joining the movement by committing to protecting birds today — and for “the next hundred years,” according to a news release.

Each month in 2018, National Geographic will send an action the company can take to make a difference for birds.

“Through 12 months of storytelling, science research and conservation efforts, ‘Year of the Bird’ will examine how our changing environment is driving dramatic losses among bird species around the globe and highlight what we can do to help bring birds back.”

Bird-X says the company is committed to deterring birds in humane ways, including sonic devices to deter geese, presented by wildlife biologist and animal behavior expert Dr. Philip Whitford. Other sonic products incorporate predator bird cries to keep birds away from specific areas without harming them, the company says.
