The site of the future Cook Museum of Natural Science in Decatur, Ala., is being cleared to make way for a new 57,000 sq. ft. facility, reports AL.com. Construction on the project, which is spearheaded by Cook’s Pest Control (a company owned by posthumous Pest Management Professional Hall of Fame inductee John R. Cook Sr.), is expected to begin in July. The new museum will include 5,000 sq. ft. of space for traveling exhibits, and larger cafe and theater areas. The popular local attraction “features more than 1,200 specimens and collections of mounted birds and animals, rocks and minerals, insects, seashells and corals,” according to the report. The museum began in the 1960s with a collection of insects used to train employees of the company; more than 750,000 visitors have visited over the past 34 years.
