Tech Test Tidbit: Snow, scent and squirrels

The eastern gray squirrel (Sciurus carolinensis) is active all year, and will even dig through snow to retrieve buried nuts. They bury most nuts at the surface, less than one-fourth of an inch below the ground, and recover about 85 percent of them. Squirrels are able to smell buried nuts under a foot of snow, but when the snow is deep, they will tunnel under it to get closer to the scent.
