Industry luminary Jim Ogle died Nov. 15, aged 89. He was a second-generation pest management professional who took his San Diego, Calif.-based family company, Lloyd Pest Control, to new heights when he took over the reins from his father, Al, in 1975. In 2000, he retired and named son Jamie Ogle as president. Read more about the family history in this 2015 profile in Pest Management Professional magazine.
After graduating from the University of California-Berkeley in 1958 and as a U.S. Navy officer in 1960, Ogle came back to Lloyd Pest Control. His father asked him to concentrate on termite work. This built the company quickly into the 10 locations it boasts today. Among his industry contributions:
- Active in the National Pest Management Association (NPMA), most notably as chair of the communications committee
- Active in the California Association of Pest Management Advocates (CAPMA), formerly Pest Control Operators of California (CPOC), especially on industry legislative issues
- Active as a 40-year member of the Executives Association of San Diego
Per his obituary as published by the NPMA, “even 25 years after Ogle’s own retirement, 26 of his hires remain employed with the company today.”
To honor his legacy, the Pest Management Foundation has established the Jim Ogle Endowed Scholarship Program, a perpetual grant awarded each year to outstanding students pursuing a degree in entomology and other pest management research.
