The most important aspect of any ant management program is the initial identification of the species. This is essential information to determine the most effective method of treatment. Different ant species often can look alike but have very different behaviors and life cycles. With so many different situations and species to control, pest management professionals must maintain a varied toolbox, including the following product categories:

  • Baits are, for the most part, the most effective control measures because they can be specific to species and to the time of the year. Whether liquid, gel, granular or solid formulations, an appropriately chosen and applied bait can help control an entire colony. For best results, apply bait directly adjacent to any visible ant trails. This will ensure the number of targeted colonies is maximized and provide the greatest reduction in ant population.
  • Sprays play an important role and can be a valuable tool. They are most effective for preventing future ant infestations in a structure.
  • Dust insecticides are useful when properly applied into voids that may be hard to reach. They can provide a means of entry inside of a tight structure.
