Much like ants, filth flies (Order: Diptera) are a pest where proper identification is key to good control. Different species of flies feed and harbor in different locations and conditions, and proper ID can guide exclusion tactics and breeding site elimination.

With most filth flies, sanitation is still the best method of control in and around both residential and commercial accounts. First, locate and thoroughly clean potential breeding sites. Next, make customer recommendations on conducive conditions, such as:

  • Do not let garbage accumulate in the open.
  • Make sure garbage cans have sound bottoms and tight-fitting lids.
  • Ensure entry points like windows and doors are closed when possible, or fitted with screens, air curtains, or other appropriate exclusion devices.
