Selecting the correct bait to use when treating for a rodent infestation is one of the most important steps in your treatment protocol. Identifying competing food sources should be one of the primary considerations when deciding upon what that “right” bait should be. In urban areas where there are plenty of competing food sources (restaurants, dumpsters, etc.), soft bait should be the pest management professional’s first choice. Soft baits typically offer more palatability and, therefore, faster feeding and quicker knockdown. Choosing a lard-based bait that is high in fats can enhance the initial feeding process.
