A group of Canadian high school students, who call themselves the Bug Dusters, invented a hovercraft that sprays insecticides using a fan to control cockroaches and bed bugs.

The 10 Winnipeg, Manitoba, teens will enter the project in the 2017 Canadian Manufacturers & Exporters’ Dare to Discover Program, which challenges students to use supplied parts to design and build a radio-controlled hovercraft. They also must prepare a written business plan and will compete for scholarships.

The team consulted with Taz Stuart, entomologist at Poulin’s Pest Control, on the prototype, which resembles the wagon from “Ghost Busters.” They believe the hovercraft could be put to use in the pest control industry.

The idea came from one of the students whose family member experiences reoccurring bed bug infestations.
