Tech Test Tidbit: Crowded colonies

A mature colony of termites may have 200,000 to 2 million workers, depending on the species, although many colonies have as few as 50,000 workers. A large colony may split into several small nesting sites (satellite nests) as the termites expand the area in which they forage.
