The National Pest Management Association gets a shout-out on The Weather Channel website, which lists the top pests to watch out for this spring. Those mentioned include termites, rodents, carpenter bees, cockroaches and mosquitoes. Readers are advised that “it’d be wise not to underestimate nature’s most resilient creatures.” For the most part, the advice is sound: “Don’t leave food, trash, standing water or general clutter out around your house. Also, if you think you may have a problem, call a professional before it gets out of control.” The recommendation to use cinnamon sticks or garlic cloves where ants may enter the home as a natural alternative to chemicals to keep them away seems counterproductive, however.
